Die Primärbehandlung von fortgeschrittenen Rektumkarzinomen besteht aus Operation
und Bestrahlung. Zurzeit erreicht man die besten Ergebnisse durch eine Kombination
von optimaler TME (total mesorektaler Excision) und präoperativer Radiotherapie bzw.
Radio-/Chemotherapie. In diesen Fällen lässt sich das Rezidivrisiko auf fast Null
zurückfahren. Die Bestrahlung kann im Ergebnis eine inadäquate Operation verbessern,
kann sie aber nicht ersetzen.
Primary treatment of advanced rectal cancer consists of surgery and radiotherapy.
Combining optimal TME (total mesorectal excision)-surgery-technique with preoperative
radiotherapy or radiochemotherapy. In these cases recurrences are very rare. Irradiation
can partly compensate for the results of inadequate surgery but cannot replace it.
