Die chronische Niereninsuffizienz (CKD: "chronic kidney disease") hat weltweit eine hohe Prävalenz. Die renale Anämie tritt in der Regel erstmals bei Patienten im CKD-Stadium 3 auf, wenn die eGFR ("estimated glomerular filtration rate") unter 60 ml/min/1,73 m2 fällt. Sie ist mit einer erhöhten Mortalität und Morbidität assoziiert [1], erklärte Prof. Michéle Kessler, Nancy (Frankreich), auf dem ERA-EDTA/DGfN-Kongress in München. Die Einführung von ESA ("Erythropoiesis Stimulating Agents") war für die Morbidität, die Mortalität und das Management der Anämie sehr hilfreich.
