Mikrobielle Biofilme auf der Oberfläche von dentalen Implantaten können zu periimplantären
Entzündungen und damit langfristig zum Implantatverlust führen. Die vorliegende Übersichtsarbeit
soll einen Überblick über die Entstehung und die Folgen von periimplantären Biofilmen
geben. Zusätzlich werden der Einfluss der Oberflächencharakteristika auf die Kinetik,
die Quantität und die Qualität der mikrobiellen Besiedlung sowie aktuelle Strategien
zur Reduzierung der Biofilmbildung auf Implantaten diskutiert.
Microbial biofilms on dental implants may lead to peri-implantitis, which in turn
is the main cause for implant failure. The aim of the present article was to give
a review of the formation of oral biofilms on dental implants and its sequelae. In
addition, the influence of surface characteristics on the quantity and quality of
biofilm formation and current strategies to prevent biofilms on dental implants should
be discussed.
