Significance

Instead of the corresponding N,N′-disubstituted selenourea, the reaction of selenourea and aryl halides/boronic acids generates symmetrical diaryl selenides in moderate to high yields. This C-Se cross-coupling reaction is catalyzed by copper oxide nanoparticles in the presence of base. No ligand or co-catalyst is required, and the catalyst can be recycled.
