Diagnose und Therapie von leichten und mittelschweren Asymmetrien

Zusammenfassung

Funktionell, dental und skelettal asymmetrische Situationen, insbesondere die hemimandibuläre Elongation und Hyperplasie, verlangen unterschiedliche Behandlungskonzepte. Ziel der vorliegenden Arbeit ist die Darstellung der Differen­zialdiagnose und Therapiemöglichkeiten von leichten und mittelschweren Asymmetrien. Dabei werden die biomechanischen Grundlagen der dentalen Kompensationsmechanismen erläutert. Anhand eines Fallberichtes werden die Grenzen der konventionellen kieferorthopädischen Therapie aufgezeigt. 

Abstract

Functional, dental and skeletal asymmetries, especially hemimandibular elongations and hyperplasia, claim for different treatment strategies. The aim of this paper is to present the differential diagnosis and treatment options for minor and moderately severe asymmetries. The biomechan­ical basis for dental compensation mechanics is explained. A case presentation is displayed to ­illustrate the limits of conventional orthodontic treatment in such situations.
