Significance

Building upon previous work (J. P. Das, H. Chechik, I. Marek Nat. Chem. 2009, 1, 128) the authors report on a strategy for the diastereoselective preparation of allyl alcohols bearing an all-carbon quaternary center from simple terminal alkynes. Functionalized alkynes bearing directing groups were previously employed in order to control any metalotropic equilibration of the allylmetal species, but the new strategy works with simple terminal alkynes.
