Significance

Diazonamide A was isolated from colonial ascidian Diazona angulata in 1991. The main synthetic challenge presented by diazonamide A is the hindered quaternary center at C10. To date, three total syntheses have been developed: one by the Nicolaou group, one by Harran and co-workers, and a formal synthesis by Magnus and co-workers.
