Significance

Chiral lithium complexes are relatively less represented in asymmetric catalysis, ­although they are rather simple compounds. This paper described a highly stereoselective chiral lithium binaphtholate catalyzed Mannich-type ­reaction between various aromatic aldimines and 1,3-dicarbonyl compounds. It’s also a very efficient way to construct consecutive stereocenters in high stereoselectivities.
