Stereoselective Restructuring of 3-Arylcyclobutanols into 1-Indanols

Significance

In this paper the authors describe a highly enantio- and diastereoselective protocol for restructuring of 3-arylcyclobutanols into 1-­indanols. Reactions were carried out with high yields (79-98%) as well as with high diastereo­selectivities (dr = 85:15 to 93:7) and excellent enantioselectivities (97-99% ee). This method is particularly noteworthy, since the obtained products contain two chiral quaternary centers.
