Significance

Merrifield resin-supported ionic liquid 1 was prepared by the treatment of Merrifieldresin with 1-methyl-1H-imidazole in toluene at 100 ˚C (eq. 1). l-Proline-catalyzed asymmetric aldol reaction of aldehydes 2 and ketones 3 proceeded in the presence of the polymeric ionic liquid 1 to give the corresponding aldol products 4 with up to 97% ee (18 examples, eq. 2).
