Significance

Gold nanoparticles supported on Fe2O3 (Au/Fe2O3) catalyzed the one-pot sequence of hydrogenation-hydroamination of (2-nitroaryl)-alkynes in toluene under H2 to give the corresponding indoles in up to 94% yield (eq. 1, 10 examples). The one-pot reductive amination of aldehydes with nitroarenes also proceeded in the presence of Au/Fe2O3 under H2 to afford the corresponding arylamines in up to 96% yield (eq. 2, 6 examples).
