Abstract
The antibacterial effect of the cranberry has been documented in many studies. Especially the inhibition of the adherence of bacteria (esp. the relevant E. coli) to the epithelial cells of the urinary tract by proanthocyanidine has been established [1], [2], [3], [4], [5], [6]. The prevention of the adherence is an effective procedure against bacterial diseases. This is also true in the case of chronical colonization, which is often present in patients with recurring urinary tract infections. In practice, the combination of the cranberry with pumpkin seed extracts has proven its worth, to strengthen the function of the bladder at the same time.
