Abstract

This literature review investigated whether physiotherapy is more effective if patients receive written information in addition to treatment. Since only few high quality studies concerning the topic were available this question could not be answered conclusively. However, indications of additional benefit were found.

It is clear that encouraging information, oriented to the biopsychosocial model and which reduces fear avoidance behaviour is more effective than the use of conventional information on anatomy, pathology and ergonomics.
