Summary
The cardenolide mixtures from living and herbarium specimens of Antiaris toxicaria (Pers.) Lesch., A. welwitschii Engl., and A. africana Engl. have been studied by paper chromatography. α– and β–antiarin, antioside, and
the substance A of Dol der et al. were present in all three plants; bogoroside was
not found. Fresh seeds of A. loxicaria contained a high proportion of polyglycosides, unlike the latex, trunk, and roots.
The taxonomy of the genus is discussed briefly; no correlation between the cardenolide
patterns and the localities of the specimens was apparent.
Zusammenfassung
Lebende und Herbar–Exemplare von Antiaris toxicaria, A. welwitschii und A. africana (Moraceen) wurden papierchromatographisch auf herzwirksame Glykoside untersucht. In
allen drei Arten wurden α– und β–Antiarin, Antiosid und eine Substanz A nachgewiesen.
Bogorosid wurde nicht gefunden. Frische Samen von A. toxicaria enthalten im Gegensatz zu Latex, Wurzeln und Stamm viel Polyglykoside.
