PUTRANJIVA ROXHBURGHII – I. Constituents of the seed coat

Abstract

A crystalline triterpenoid saponin designated Putranjivoside, C₄₇H₇₆O₁₆ • 6H₂O, m. p. 215–217°, (α)n–35°, has been isolated from the seed coat of Putranjiva roxhburghii and it has been established to be 3–β–L–arabino–L–rhamno–D–glucoside of oleanolic acid. The other constituents include free β–sitosterol and β–D–glucoside of β–sitosterol apart from a viscous liquid terpenic fraction.

Zusammenfassung

Aus den Samenschalen von Putranjiva roxhburghii wurde kristallines Putranjivosid isoliert. Bei der Substanz handelt es sich um ein triterpenisches Saponin (C₄₇H₇₆O₁₆ • 6H₂O, Smp. 215–217°, (α)_D–35°), das als 3–β–Arabino–L–rhamno–D–glukosid der Oleanolsäure erkannt wurde. Weitere Inhaltsstoffe sind freies β–Sitosterol und ein β–D–Glukosid des β–Sitosterols, ferner eine zähflüssige Terpenfraktion.
