Abstract

TLC was applied successfully in the separation and estimation of the scilladienolides in the fresh local squill bulbs as well as in its galenicals and pharmaceutical preparations. Two colorimetric methods and a spectrophotometric one are proposed. These methods are based on applying Liebermann–Burchard reaction, hydroxamic acid reaction or selective U. V. absorbance at 300 mμ on glycosides recovered by quantitative TLC.
