Abstract

The petroleum ether, alcoholic and aqueous extracts of the rhizome of Curcuma longa have been tested for its antifertility activity in female albino rats and rabbits. Of the extracts tested, the petroleum ether and aqueous extracts showed 100 % antifertility activity at a dose of 200 ntglkg body weight in rats. All the three extracts did not exhibit any anti-ovulatory activity in rabbits.
