Summary
A case of pseudomyxoma peritonei, secondary to a ruptured appendiceal mucocele, has
been presented. It is desirable to distinguish pseudomyxoma peritonei from other causes
of ascites. The best approach to obtain the diagnosis of this condition is by peritoneoscopy.
This is a safe and easy method which allowed us to investigate the gross appearence
of the condition in the peritoneal cavity. The view of the cysts and nodules of the
gelatinous material is clear and characteristic for this condition.
