Abrasive Cytology of the Pancreatic and Biliary Duct in Man

Summary

Using a specially designed Fogarthy-catheter running through the conventional ERCP tube sufficient cytological material can be obtained from the pancreatic and common bile duct without complications. The method seems very useful in suspicious strictures or complete obstruction of the ductal system by malignancy.

Zusammenfassung

Mit einem neu entwickelten Ballonkatheter lassen sich auch beim Menschen optimale Abstriche vom Gangsystem machen, ohne daß bislang Komplikationen beobachtet wurden. Das gewonnene Zellmaterial zeigt in der Regel Zellverbände optimal erhaltener Gangepithelien. Bei suspekten Gangstenosen oder einem kompletten Gangabbruch läßt sich hierdurch eine präoperative Tumordiagnostik auf eine morphologische Basis stellen.
