Summary

The diagnosis of Ménétrier's disease is only possible by combining various diagnostic procedures. Gastroscopy and “blind” biopsy are especially helpful in making the correct diagnosis. In contrast to the radiological findings, which are very often doubtful and inconclusive, the endoscopic picture with purple glistening papillary giant folds suggests the correct diagnosis which has to be confirmed by a biopsy specimen. The blind gastric biopsy enables the measurement of the mucosal thickness for differentiating foveolar and glandular hyperplasia. Finally the Gordon-test with 51Cr labelled albumin verifies the enteral protein loss.
