Abstract

The known procedures of alkaline hydrolysis of lanatoside A and lanatoside C have been quantitatively checked. In all cases, either rather long reaction times or large volumes of solvents for extraction of deacetyl-lanatosides from aqueous phase have been found to be the main disadvantages of the hydrolytic methods.

In this publication a new method of preparing deacetyl-lanatosides, namely methanolysis of lanatosides catalized by small amounts of NaOCH3, has been described. This method has been shown to be much superior to hydrolysis procedures regarding both the yields of deacetyl-lanatosides and the isolation procedure.
