Abstract

The minor aglycones of liquorice, resulting from acid hydrolysis of the natural saponins, were found to comprise a new triterpenoid, isolated as the diacetatemethyl ester. Available evidence, including mass and NMR spectral data, suggests that the new triterpenoid is 28–hydroxyglycyrrhetic acid (IV).
