SCREENING OF SOME SOLANACEOUS PLANTS FOR GLYCOALKALOIDS

Abstract

Aerial parts of Physalis ixocarpa, Solatium jasminoides, and green berries of Withania somnifera were analysed for glycoalkaloids. Solasonine and solamargine are present only in S. jasminoides, a new source, which were identified by Chromatographie techniques, mp, mmp, optical rotations, colorimetry and ir studies, but no alkaloid was detected in other plant species under investigation.
