Laparoscopy in gynecological diagnosis is an essential procedure which is simple in
technique and almost without any risk. The examiner very often has a much better view
at the genital organs than the surgeon performing a laparotomy. Three classical indications:
the diagnosis of sterility, the differential diagnosis of ectopic pregnancies and
uncertain adnexitis are critically evaluated. The technique, the complications and
contraindication as well as the surgical procedures with the laparoscope are discussed.
In the author's opinion the sterilization of the Fallopian tube represents the most
important surgical intervention performed with the laparoscope.
