Abstract
The formation of the nucleotide intermediates adenosine phosphosulphate (APS) and phosphoadenosine-phosphosulphate (PAPS), which are involved in the uptake of radioactive sulphate into chondroitin sulphate, was examined using hepatic enzyme preparations from normal and pancreatectomized male rats. It was found that the enzymatic formation of the active sulphate carrier PAPS was stimulated at low concentrations (less than 0.5 mg) and inhibited at higher concentrations (greater than 1.0 mg) of soluble enzyme prepared from livers of diabetic male rats. The formation of APS was also depressed in the diabetic state.
