Abstract

Glucagon, or glucagon-like substances showing immuno-reactivity, extracted from the serum of normal, totally pancreatectomized, or partially eviscerated ducks, were passed through columns of Sephadex G50 and their molecular weights determined.

In each case only one species, in the molecular weight range of 6,000, was present. The pancreas and gut apparently only secrete the large glucagon form already described in this species.

Glucagon may exist in several large forms: that recovered in the post-pancreatectomy series had a molecular weight marginally less than 6,000. The form secreted by the pancreas (eviscerated series) had the same molecular size as that found in normal serum.
