Abstract

The 3H-serotonin uptake into the rat adrenal medullary cells was investigated. The medullary cells and the cortical ganglia were intensively labelled, while the cortex was absolutely free from grains. The uptake increased by pinealectomy. The possible physiological role of the serotonin in the secretion of adrenal medullary cells and the relationship between the function of the pineal body and the serotonin metabolism are discussed. The serotonin-mediated pineal regulatory function on the adrenal medullary hormone secretion is proposed.
