Abstract

Proteolytic activity has been measured in rat skeletal muscle by use of [14C]-hemoglobin as substrate. The activity of the alkaline proteinases increases during starvation and in diabetic state. In streptozotocin-diabetic animals the activity of alkaline proteases increases to 300% over a time of 21 days. Insulin treatment reverses the enhanced enzyme activity to normal level.
