A Ventriculo-Atrial Shunt that Elongates with Growth

Abstract

A modification of the ventriculo-atrial shunt is described, which incorporates a double “telescopic” principle to allow for elongation of the shunt during growth of the patient. The technique of implantation is described. Eleven of the fourteen implanted are functioning and there is radiological evidence of elongation of the shunt from 4 to 23 mm.

Es wird ein ventriculo-atrialer Shunt beschrieben, welcher sich teleskopartig mit dem Wachstum des Patienten verlängern kann. Elf der 14 bisher implantierten Teleskope funktionieren gut und zeigen röntgenologisch eine Elongation zwischen 4 und 23 mm.
