Transient Monocular Amaurosis due to a Contralateral Cerebral Vascular Malformation

Summary

A case of recurrent transient monocular blindness is presented, in which an arteriovenous fistula was demonstrated in the opposite cerebral hemisphere. An explanation of the haemodynamic mechanisms is given on the basis of arteriographic findings. Removal of the fistula resulted in cessation of the attacks.

Zusammenfassung

Es wird über einen Fall von rezidivierender einäugiger Blindheit berichtet, bei dem eine arteriovenöse Fistel der kontralateralen Hemisphäre nachgewiesen werden konnte. Auf der Basis der arteriographischen Befunde wird eine Erklärung der hämodynamischen Mechanismen gegeben. Die Beseitigung der Fistel führte zum Verschwinden der Attacken.

Compte rendu d'un cas de cécité monoculaire transitoire dans lequel une fistule artérioveineuse de l'hémisphére opposé a été mise en évidence. Les données artériographiques apportent l'explication du mécanisme hémodynamique. L'ablation de la fistule arrêta ces attaques.
