Objective: Rice bran oil contains several bioactive components that exhibit antioxidant properties such as tocopherol, tocotrienols and gamma-oryzanol. Liposomes have been used to carry these bioactive compounds in order to increase their stability and activity [1]. The aim of this study was to develop lipstick formulations containing rice bran oil liposome [2].

Method: Lipstick containing rice bran oil liposomes were prepared by fusion method. The lipstick formulations were evaluated for their appearance, pH, stability under freeze-thaw condition, bioactive release using dissolution test determined in term of antioxidant activity.

Results and Conclusion: The Lipstick formulation containing 5.0% of rice bran oil liposome showed good physical characteristic. Only little change of appearance and pH were observed. This formulation showed statistically antioxidant activity higher than lipstick formulation containing 3.0% of rice bran oil. The result suggests that the suitable formulation in this study is lipstick containing 5.0% of rice bran oil liposome. This formulation has a potential to be used for cosmetic products.
