Earmold Fittings for Children with Severe-To-Profound Hearing Impairment: A Survey of the Industry
Publication History
Publication Date:

Abstract
While it is widely accepted that an appropiate earmold fitting is paramount in maximizing amplification, there is little published research on earmold configurations in a child's ear coupled to a high-power hearing aid. Despite the lack of research, there are clear parameters that must be considered in pediatric earmold fitting including impression technique, earmold material, tubing, and related factors. A survey of earmold manufacturers was conducted to determine the recommended ear impression procedures and earmold configurations for children. Results revealed a lack of agreement among earmold manufacturers and little published data to support their recommendations.
