Abstract

Selecting appropriate amplification is typically the first step in the intervention process for infants with hearing loss. By providing the young infant with access to consistent and high-quality sound, the use of residual hearing can be maximized and auditory skills can develop at age-appropriate times. Amplification options have increased greatly over the past few years. Some of these options may provide significant benefit to young infants, while other types may not. Through a careful consideration of the infant's needs and those of his or her family, optimal amplification can be provided. Three case studies are provided to illustrate these considerations.
