Jodsupplementierung vor, während und nach der Schwangerschaft?

Zusammenfassung
Dieser narrative Überblick beschreibt die derzeitig unzureichende Jodaufnahme und den Jodstatus von schwangeren und stillenden Frauen in Deutschland, Europa und weltweit sowie deren Risiken insbesondere für die kindliche neurokognitive und psychomotorische Entwicklung. Er betont die Verantwortung der Gesundheitspolitik, angemessene Maßnahmen für eine ausreichende Jodversorgung aller Bevölkerungsgruppen sicherzustellen und deren Umsetzung, insbesondere in der Schwangerschaft und Stillzeit als besonders kritische Lebensphasen für das ungeborene Kind und den gestillten Säugling, durch ein adäquates Monitoring zu kontrollieren. Zum Stand der nationalen Handlungsempfehlungen zur Jodsupplementierung werden anhand von aktuellen Studien Nutzen und Nachteile der erforderlichen Maßnahmen zur Verbesserung der Jodversorgung von schwangeren und stillenden Frauen sowie deren Kinder aufgezeigt. Die wichtigste Methode der Jodprophylaxe, auch in der Schwangerschaft und der Stillzeit, ist nach wie vor die universelle Salzjodierung. Solange diese Maßnahme zur Verbesserung der flächendeckenden Jodversorgung nicht möglich ist, soll nach Auffassung des AKJ insbesondere Frauen im gebärfähigen Alter empfohlen werden, Jodpräparate mindestens 3 Monate vor der Konzeption, während der Schwangerschaft und in der Stillzeit kontinuierlich zu sich zu nehmen.
