Ein Problem für viele Menschen – Was sagt die Wissenschaft?Authors
Ich kann mich noch gut an die Zeit meiner Dissertation vor ungefähr 45 Jahren erinnern: Im Schlaflabor von Hinrich Cramer und Peter Clarenbach an der „Neurophys“ in Freiburg (international bekannte Neurophysiologie-Abteilung in Freiburg, unter der Leitung von Richard Jung) versuchte ich mich als Schlafforscher. Das bedeutete ganz praktisch zunächst einmal, dass man viele Nächte damit verbringt, selber nicht zu schlafen, sondern anderen beim Schlafen zuzuschauen und mittels technischer Verfahren Daten zu generieren. Die Schlafforschung steckte damals noch in den Kinderschuhen und alles war sehr improvisiert: Die Kabel (für die Polysomnographie) und Schläuche (zum Blutabnehmen) verliefen durch ein unverkleidetes Loch in der Backsteinwand zwischen Schlafraum und Beobachtungsraum, es war eng und recht dunkel, und man befand sich insgesamt in einem alten Wohnhaus, das notdürftig in eine Mini-Klinik für Neurologie mit zwei Betten-Stationen und zwei Forschungstrakten unterm Dach (da war das Schlaflabor) und im Keller (da wurde an Affen geforscht) umgebaut worden war. Heute würde man sagen: das hatte einen ganz besonderen Charme.
