The Safe and Sustainable by Design (SSbD) framework integrates safety and sustainability throughout the innovation process in a holistic manner. It supports the (re)design of chemicals, materials, processes, and products by combining Risk Assessment (RA) and Sustainability Assessment (SA) with a life-cycle perspective driving innovation towards safer and more sustainable solutions. It is a collective effort and responsibility across the value chain and it represents a paradigm change in innovation and is a key element for achieving the European Chemicals Strategy for Sustainability goals.
