Die Chagas-Erkrankung

Die Chagas-Krankheit, verursacht durch Infektion mit dem Protozoon Trypanosoma cruzi, ist eine vernachlässigte Tropenerkrankung, die vor allem in Lateinamerika verbreitet ist. Durch Migration hat sie weltweit an Bedeutung gewonnen. Die Krankheit betrifft vor allem das Herz und den Gastrointestinaltrakt. Viele Betroffene erhalten nach wie vor keine rechtzeitige Diagnose und auch keine angemessene Therapie.
