Thoraxtraumata sind noch immer mit erheblicher Morbidität und Mortalität assoziiert. Aus rein pragmatischer Sicht hat sich in den vergangenen Jahren eine Klassifizierung in 4 Gruppen bewährt, die unterschiedlicher Expertise und Infrastruktur zur optimalen Versorgung bedürfen. Der Großteil aller Patienten lässt sich jedoch noch immer suffizient mit der Anlage einer Thoraxdrainage therapieren.
