Current discrepancies among guidelines have created uncertainty on the benefit of compression therapy in deep vein thrombosis. This uncertainty affects motivation of doctors, organisation of care, and patient adherence. However, the current management of deep vein thrombosis, particularly the prevention of postthrombotic syndrom, remains largely conservative and is based on two pillars: anticoagulation therapy and compression therapy.
