In 2022, we look back on 50 years of history of the European Federation of Societies in Ultrasound in Medicine and Biology (EFSUMB). Since 2004, “Ultraschall in der Medizin” has borne the second title “European Journal of Ultrasound” and is the official EFSUMB journal. The authors of this editorial, including all EFSUMB Presidents since 2011, editors of the journal, and the Presidents of the 33 rd EUROSON Congress of EFSUMB in Timişoara, believe that a commemoration of this occasion may be of interest to the readers of our journal. The editorial aims not only to pay tribute to the equally successful and eventful history of our Federation, but also to contribute to the discussion on how we want to shape the future path of EFSUMB in troubled times.
