Zusammenfassung

Die Vielfalt der Erkrankungsmöglichkeiten der Wirbelsäule fordert die zeitgemäße veterinärmedizinische Diagnostik in all ihren Facetten heraus. Ganzheitliche, klinische Diagnostik mit orthopädischem sowie neurologischem Hintergrund muss fallbedingt um sinnvolle bildgebende Diagnostik ergänzt werden.

Überkommenen Lehrmeinungen entgegen, sind alle hier genannten Erkrankungen auch Schmerzerkrankungen und nicht nur etwa ein Phänomen oder ein Nebenbefund.

Sie müssen als solche verstanden und in ein adäquates Therapiekonzept eingebunden werden, unabhängig davon, ob sie einzeln oder mit weiteren Schmerzerkrankungen gemeinsam festgestellt werden.

Ein gutes Verständnis zu der jeweils vorliegenden Erkrankung schafft die Erkenntnis, ein geeignetes, nicht selten multimodales Therapieprogramm zu erarbeiten.

Erkrankungen der Wirbelsäule werden durch degenerative, metabolische, neoplastische, entzündliche, traumatische oder kongenitale Störungen verursacht. Die betroffenen Tiere leiden je nach Krankheitsbild unter Schmerzen, propriozeptiven Defiziten, Ataxien, Paresen oder Paralysen und Parästhesien.

Summary

The variety of possible diseases of the spine offers challenges to modern veterinary diagnostics in all its facets. Holistic, clinical diagnostics with orthopedic and neurological background must, depending on the case, be supplemented by sensible imaging diagnostics. Contrary to traditional doctrines, all diseases mentioned here are also pain disorders and not just a phenomenon or an ancillary finding. They must be understood as such and be integrated into an adequate therapy concept, regardless of whether they are identified individually or together with other pain disorders. A good understanding of the respective disease creates the knowledge to develop a suitable and often a multimodal therapy program.
