Introduction

Proportion of children affected by the novel coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is considerably lower than that in adults. Specifically, only 1–5% of all COVID-19 patients are younger than 18 and, overall, have much better prognosis compared to adults (Ludvigsson. Acta Paediatr 2020; 109: 1088–1095). In fact, clinical presentation of COVID-19 in children has typically been asymptomatic or mild (Ludvigsson. Acta Paediatr 2020; 109: 1088–1095). Estimates suggest that only 0.6% of children with COVID-19 become critically ill and can develop acute respiratory failure and oxygen saturation of<92% (Dong Y et al.; Pediatrics. 2020; 145:e20200702).

In this report, we present a case of a critically ill paediatric patient with COVID-19 who who had a residual motor deficit due to Guillain-Barré syndrome. Written consent to publish this report was obtained from the parents of the patient.
