Vaskuläre Demenz
Als vaskuläre Demenz bezeichnet man die Konstellation eines demenziellen Syndroms in Verbindung mit einer, als ursächlich angenommenen, vaskulären Hirnschädigung. Verlauf und Profil kognitiver Defizite sind je nach Art und Ort der Schädigung sehr variabel, Überschneidungen mit insbesondere einer zusätzlichen Alzheimer-Pathologie im Alter häufig. Neuere Diagnosekriterien berücksichtigen auch kognitive Störungen, die (noch) nicht die Kriterien einer Demenz erfüllen.
