Liguster – eine (un)bekannte vergessene Arzneipflanze?

Matthias F Melzig

Abstract

Privet: A seemingly forgotten herbal remedy

Ligustrum vulgare L. (wild privet) seems to be a forgotten medicinal plant. Its leaves were traditionally used to cure minor inflammations in the mouth or the throat. The presence of secoiridoids, like oleuropein, flavonoids and phenylpropanoids in the leaves support these ethnomedical indications and might justify further pharmacological investigations.
