Zusammenfassung
Hintergrund In den letzten Jahren beobachten wir in Österreich einen lebendigen öffentlichen
Diskurs zu Fragen des Ausbaus der Palliativversorgung. International erfährt die Frage
nach dem erwünschten Versorgungsort große Beachtung.
Ziel Der Beitrag geht der Frage nach dem ‚guten Sterben‘ aus der Perspektive der Betroffenen
im österreichischen Bundesland Kärnten nach.
Methodik Wir haben 11 qualitative, narrative und problemzentrierte Interviews mit Menschen
am Lebensende und deren Angehörigen sowie eine Gruppendiskussion mit professionell
Sorgenden in Kärnten durchgeführt und mittels qualitativer Inhaltsanalyse ausgewertet.
Ergebnisse Unsere Interviewpartner und -partnerinnen denken in den Gesprächen über das ‚gute
Sterben‘ deutlich mehr über soziale Beziehungen als über konkrete Sterbeorte nach.
Gutes Sterben bedeutet für die Betroffenen, in familiale, zivilgesellschaftliche und
professionelle Sorgenetzwerke eingebettet zu sein.
Schlussfolgerung Im Sinne der Betroffenen unterstützen Caring Communities die Entwicklung von familialen,
zivilgesellschaftlichen und professionellen Sorgenetzwerken.
Abstract
Background In recent years, the discourse around issues of expanding palliative care structures
has been very lively, whereas international literature shows a remarkable focus on
researching the preferred place of death.
Aim This paper aims at exploring the concept of “good dying” from the perspective of
those affected in the Austrian province Carinthia.
Methods We conducted 11 qualitative, narrative and problem-centered research interviews with
people at the end-of-life and their relatives as well as one group discussion with
professionals in palliative care in Carinthia. We chose Mayring’s qualitative content
analysis to analyze the interviews and the group discussion.
Findings In the interviews about ‘good dying’ our interview partners reflected by far more
about social relations than about places of death. In their understanding, ‘good dying’
is based on a threefold network: the family, the civic society and the professional
care network.
Conclusion: In line with the perspectives of those affected, caring communities support
the development of family, civic society and professional care networks.
