Introduction

Acute scrotum represents a medical emergency requiring a timely diagnosis. The patient’s history, timely physical examination and imaging studies usually demonstrate the underlying disease. Doppler ultrasonography, especially color Doppler (Becker D, et al. Dtsch Med Wochenschr. 1997 Nov 14; 46: 1405 – 1409), has become a fast and reliable tool for bedside diagnosis of testicular torsion but contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) outperformed all other ultrasound modalities in a recent study (Schröder C, et al. Ultrasound Med Biol 2016; 42: 1807 – 1815).
