Placeboantworten können Schmerzen lindern und körperliche Funktionen wie das Immunsystem beeinflussen. Welche psychologischen und physiologischen Grundlagen Placeboeffekte haben, wie Placeboeffekte auch die Wirkung von „echten“ Medikamenten beeinflussen können und wie sich dies für die zahnärztliche Kommunikation nutzen lässt, soll in diesem Beitrag dargestellt werden.
