Zusammenfassung

Vor allem die Patienten mit chronischen muskuloskeletalen Beschwerden benötigen Unterstützung, um auf lange Sicht mit der Erkrankung adäquat umgehen und sie selbst managen zu können. Patient Education (PE) ist dabei eine zentrale additive Intervention in der Behandlung. Sie ist Aufgabe aller Gesundheitsfachpersonen, insbesondere auch Physiotherapeuten. Es gehört zur Berufsethik der Physiotherapeuten, sicherzustellen, dass ihre Patienten adäquate Informationen erhalten, um sich informiert in den Therapieprozess einzulassen und auch entscheiden zu können, was sie wollen (und was nicht). Allerdings geht PE weit über die Bereitstellung von Informationen hinaus: durch Beeinflussen/Verändern von Einstellungen, Überzeugungen, Fertigkeiten oder Verhaltensweisen soll das Selbstmanagement der Patienten gefördert werden.
