Abstract
Parotidectomy is the standard procedure for treatment of benign parotid tumors. Nowadays, one of the main objectives of surgery is to minimize morbidity.
However, the debate about the appropriate surgical technique in parotid surgery is still ongoing. There is a high level of evidence, that limited parotidectomy
techniques are associated with fewer complications and especially with lower prevalence of permanent facial nerve palsy and Frey´s syndrome. However, limited
parotidectomy requires an accurate pre-selection of patients and a precise preoperative diagnostic work-up. This manuscript describes the current trends in
surgery for benign parotid lesions and illustrates the treatment options for major post-parotidectomy complications.
