Abstract

As a surgical technique for closure of the calcified ductus in adults, some surgeons advocate the method of intraaortic closure with a patch, but patch closure from inside the aorta is sometimes a hazardous procedure. The authors have applied ductus closure with a silicon sponge under direct vision. A cylindrically cut silicon sponge was inserted into the ductus through a small incision in the ductus. They advocate this surgical procedure as a safe alternative to the patch closure method from inside the aorta.
